We started as a team at a government-funded R&D centre, handling Innovation and Technology Support Programme (ITSP) applications. Shortly after the Enterprise Support Scheme (ESS) replaced SERAP, applicants began asking us to review their ESS applications. Because ESS is open to private companies, businesses have to prepare their applications themselves, and what we saw would clearly have caused them serious problems.
One company had a genuinely new idea and an impressive team with strong academic and industry backgrounds. In our view they were 100% eligible, yet the way they had prepared their application would have led to a long back-and-forth with the government. Drawing on our experience, we advised them and guided them back on track, and they completed the application quickly and accurately.
Not long after, a similar case came to us. That was when we realised how crucial experience with large-scale R&D funding applications is to the Enterprise Support Scheme, and Konin R&D Consultant Limited was born.
The reason we started Konin.
On one hand, we want to contribute our expertise. On the other, we don't want good ideas to be buried because of things their founders were never supposed to need to know. That is how we started.
